Oakland Yoga Studio (OYS) offers a high level of precise and detailed anatomically based yoga instruction, inspired by B.K.S. Iyengar. The teaching aims to be healing and therapeutic, creative and inspired. Modification and enhancement of poses using wall mounted belts, straps, boards, blocks and wedges help students zero in on specific areas of the body and observe and feel the energetic structure of the asanas. The practice of ahimsa or non-harming is paramount while challenging students of all ages and abilities to bring the practice safely to unimagined levels of deeper understanding and execution. At OYS students learn to take care of themselves and grow in their practice without taking themselves too seriously.
